Why Caucus for Michael?

Caucusing is a great way to participate in your local democratic process while also meeting neighbors to learn about and discuss politics that affect your community. While the DFL endorsement comes with key resources that help the campaign, it’s also an opportunity to turn out supporters and demonstrate the strength of our team! In addition, endorsement blocks conservative candidates from getting ahead, strengthening our path to victory which is important for building momentum in a city wide campaign. What is caucus?

Precinct caucuses are the first step in the DFL endorsement process and take place on April 8th. Neighbors gather to elect a group of delegates to represent them at Ward and City conventions. These conventions then elect party officers and endorse candidates running for mayor, city council, park board, and board of estimate & taxation. There is rarely competition for delegate spots, so whoever shows up usually wins! If you can’t attend your precinct caucus in person on April 8th, you can still participate by submitting a non-attendee form

What is convention?

Once delegates and their alternates are elected at the precinct caucus, those delegates and alternates meet at their ward convention, and then the city convention. At both conventions delegates ask questions of the candidates and may endorse a candidate for mayor, city council, park board, or board of estimate & taxation. There are speeches by candidates, questions and answers, and other business.

Ward Convention

This is where ward delegates vote to endorse ward-level candidates (like city councilors). While we will be hanging out and tabling at these conventions, this is NOT where we get endorsed for our city wide campaign. Ward Conventions run from late April to the end of May and build the support needed for strong representation at the citywide level.

City Convention

The City Convention on July 19th and 20th is the final step in the endorsement process. City delegates from all 13 wards gather to vote to endorse city-level candidates, LIKE US!
